OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Prince William County Community Foundation uses a governance model that provides a thoughtful framework to help guide our volunteer board of directors in determining the strategic direction of the PWCC Foundation and creating a vision for our work in Prince William County. Directors are chosen for their sensitivity to and knowledge of the county’s key issues and are appointed/selected by our Community Foundation Members.

The Board is responsible for determining the strategic direction of the Foundation. In conjunction with our ends statement, the means are staff activities controlled through a set of written policies that clearly define limitations. Because the staff has tremendous flexibility within these limitations, they can be responsive to community needs and opportunities.

With that, the Board will:

Engage in discussions about the long-term strategic direction of the Foundation.

Revisit the Ends Statement annually to ensure that it remains relevant and clearly represents our vision.

Help inform our discussions by communicating regularly with a wide variety of people (existing and prospective donors, non-profit leaders and employees, volunteers, policymakers, businesspeople, and others).

While our Ends Statement may change regularly/often, by having well-thought-out governance allows the Foundation to respond to changes in our communities.

• Proposed BoD’s will be from within the 11 communities that make up PWC.

• Board of Directors members may also be appointed if they reside outside of PWC.

Our Members

Our members will appoint the directors of the Board of Directors. Annually, they will be asked to provide input, feedback, and guidance on the PWCC Foundation’s activities. Drawn from around the county (and in some cases outside), they help ensure that our governance structure reflects Prince William County’s rich diversity of thought. They also help introduce and connect their own communities to the Foundation and have the potential to strengthen, grow, and shape the organization.

We thank each member for their commitment to Prince William County and the Community Foundation.
